226-Acre Community Development

Vast Oak is a 226-acre, multi-phase subdivision within the University District Specific Plan (UDSP) in Rohnert Park, California. The expansive, pedestrian-oriented community was designed to provide diverse housing and community resources near educational and cultural facilities. More than 1,200 dwelling units were constructed by Brookfield Residential in four phases spanning eight years.

Over this time, CalWalls provided a collective 55,000 square feet of wall construction, including retaining walls, sound walls, and entrance monument structures. This project demonstrated our ability to comprehensively manage complex projects from start to finish, maximizing efficiency each step of the way. From trenching and excavation to veneering and decorative caps, our team handled all construction elements involved, which streamlined communications, reduced turnaround time, and maximized quality control.

The property for Vast Oak had been continuously farmed for over 50 years and featured challenging expansive clay soil conditions and groundwater considerations. CalWalls employed innovative engineering solutions and products to produce durable, pragmatic solutions that saved time, money, labor, and resources.

Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) and Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) processes were utilized to increase the bearing capacity of clay soil, reduce soil displacement, and provide optimal drainage. Monolithic poured wall systems provided production speed, foundational strength, structural integrity, and design flexibility. Architectural facade veneers and decorative capstones were installed throughout the development for aesthetic continuity.
